Position Summary:

Service Inspired Restaurants® (SIR Corp.) is looking for an Intermediate Computer Technician, reporting to the Director of IT Operations. The Intermediate Computer Technician is responsible for providing timely and effective support to our restaurants and corporate office teams to achieve departmental and company objectives. Independently working to support 60+ restaurants as well as corporate office Team Members, including installing, supporting, and servicing IT systems and products.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of existing infrastructure by monitoring system performance, configuring, maintaining and repairing.  Ensure that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained.  Applies revisions to host system firmware and software.  Provides support and works with vendors to assist support activities where required.
  • Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.  Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
  • May guide or provide work direction to technical staff, contract staff and / or student employees.
  • Performs troubleshooting as required. As such, leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations.
  • Establishes, maintains and manages user accounts.  Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on server computer systems.  Provides user support related to servers and other software.
  • Establishes guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the host computer operating systems, disk arrays, network switches, tape libraries and other components.
  • Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources.
  • Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
  • Develops procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications.
  • Develops and coordinates project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the customer organizations.  Provides leadership in planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration.
  • Develops tools, procedures, and documentation and training sessions for Operations, Client Support and Systems Development staff to assist with work.
  • Manages the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and Access Control system.
  • Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and security and recommends ways for the company to take advantage of new technology.
  • Management of 3rd Party relationship for existing Velocloud private WAN consisting of over sixty branch locations.  Design, Management and Support of branch IT infrastructure is responsibility of this position.
  • Maintenance, Support and Troubleshooting in a timely manner of complex automation applications for numerous business processes throughout the enterprise is a key accountability.
  • Configuration, Deployment and Management of mobile device inventory and related technologies: Corporate smart phones, User BYOD program, Field utility devices (iPads, etc)
  • Management/Maintenance of a significant library of Internet domain registrations (.ca, .com).  Monitoring health/backup, etc  of the many Internet Web server platforms being used throughout the organization. 
  • Performance of other IT related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or related discipline. (Substantial and relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis). Seven (7) years’ work experience in complex Systems Administration, design, configuration and support of hardware and software systems.
  • Some familiarity with SQL (Query writing, Stored Procedures) is a significant asset.
  • Expert level knowledge of: all current MS Server and Workstation Operating systems required including Windows, Mac OS and MS Server.
  • Expert in use of: Active Directory, Group Policy, MSSQL Server administration and VMWare VSphere /ESXI Virtual server, VSAN and VMWare Workstation environments.
  • Cloud experience relating to (AWS Infrastructure, Azure AD)
  • Expert level with respect to Ipv4 networking technologies, Firewall, Router and Layer-3 switch configuration including complex VLANs. 
  • Experience with iSCSI SAN technologies is required.  Specific experience with HP Lefthand iSCSI SANs a significant asset.
  • Powershell experience is an asset.
  • Office 365 environment experience.
  • Well versed in on-prem as well as cloud Enterprise backup, as well as Disaster recovery planning and procedures.  Able to use system performance monitoring tools, packet capture utilities, etc.
  • Effective project management techniques, principles and practices of effective management and supervision.
  • Ability to: plan, organize and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with institutional policies/procedures; communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively.
  • Experience in a geographically distributed WAN and application environment is required.
  • Relevant work experience in the distributed retail or hospitality industry is a definite asset.
